Ride the Mentawais
All-inclusive surf trips to some of the world's best waves — flexible durations, expert boat access, and everything taken care of from arrival to departure.
Just show up — we take care of the rest. That means ferry bookings, pre-trip hotel stays near the port, pickup from the terminal, all boat transport, accommodation at camp, every meal, and at least one surf trip per day.
Getting to the Mentawais involves a few moving parts — ferries, timing, accommodation in Padang. We've done it enough times to know where things go wrong, and we handle all of it for you. Especially for first-time visitors, this makes a real difference.
If you prefer to arrange your own travel and lodging, that's fine too — just let us know. But we strongly recommend letting us handle it. Missing a ferry or messing up hotel timing on the way in can set the whole trip back, and there's no reason to take that on yourself.
We handle the Padang leg so nothing falls through the cracks
We meet you off the ferry and handle everything from there
Accommodation, all meals, boat transport & surf trips
Your rate covers everything from the moment you land in Padang to the day you leave. We handle the logistics — you focus on surfing.
At least one boat surf trip per day is included. On days when the waves are nearby, we often run a second trip. Multiple surf spots are accessible by boat.
We book your ferry and arrange your pre-trip hotel stay near the port in Padang. We recommend the direct ferry to Manura Siberut — and we'll make sure you're on the right one. Our boat meets you at the terminal.
8 rooms for up to 4 guests each — beachfront or jungle-view, all built to western standards. Bed type confirmed at booking based on your group.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. A mix of Indonesian-style dishes and western options, using fresh local catch and vegetables. See the Dining page for the full picture.
The day's schedule is set the night before based on surf conditions. A typical flow: breakfast, morning surf, lunch, beach or lounge time, afternoon surf, then dinner around sunset.
We run at least one boat trip per day. If the waves are close, we often do a second session. Multiple breaks are accessible and we move around depending on conditions, swell direction, and what the group wants.
Surf trips require a minimum of 4 surfers to run the boat. If your group is smaller, we'll coordinate with other guests going out at the same time — or a fuel surcharge may apply for running the boat under capacity.
Atchafalaya isn't a remote outpost — it's a well-built, well-equipped property right on the beach. Non-surfers, partners, and family members have a genuinely comfortable place to stay, rest, work, or explore.
We have Starlink and a cellular hotspot. Basic bandwidth for messaging, email, and browsing is included. Heavier work-grade bandwidth is available as a paid add-on — making remote work genuinely possible from a beachfront property in the Mentawais.
All rooms are air-conditioned. The island has some daytime power outages, but they happen while surfers are out on the water — so in practice, AC is on when you need it most. This isn't roughing it.
The property has a central lounge space and direct beach access. A comfortable place to read, work, relax, or do nothing at all. Three meals a day are included and ready when you are.
Non-surfers get the boat fees deducted from their rate. Leisure boat trips — snorkeling, island exploration, or just a ride out — can be added on as wanted. You're not locked out of the water, just not paying for surf trips you won't take.
Every trip is a bit different. We work with solo travelers, couples, groups, and mixed crews — surfers and non-surfers together. Get in touch and we'll figure out the right setup for your group.
Great for groups of friends — the more surfers, the easier it is to run trips efficiently and keep costs manageable.
Trip length is dictated by the ferry schedule — not a fixed package length. Book whatever duration fits your schedule.
Non-surfers travel at an adjusted rate and can add boat excursions as wanted. Everyone still shares meals and the island experience.
If your group has fewer than 4 surfers, we coordinate with other guests going out at the same time so everyone can get in the water.
We strongly recommend letting us handle your ferry and hotel logistics. Guests who prefer to self-arrange can do so on request — just let us know in advance.
Trip duration is set by the ferry schedule. Check the Shadow Mentawai site for current timetables — we recommend the direct ferry to Manura Siberut both ways where possible.
Travel insurance is required for all surfers. Your policy should cover emergency medical care — water sports emergencies are a serious consideration on a remote island.
